In order to complete the Duke of Edinburgh award, students are required to learn a skill as a means of developing their personal interests as well as practical and social skills. As a Duke of Edinburgh Approved Activity Provider, my lessons have been tailored to suit the requirements of the skills sections. Many of my students have enjoyed learning the guitar and music theory alongside their Dofe award and have subsequently successfully completed their skills sections.

Given the current circumstances with Covid I’m also able to provide lessons suited to match the requirements of the skills sections online via Zoom. The fact that lessons can be recorded adds to the evidence needed as proof that a regular commitment has been made to lessons in addition to reports completed by myself. This also means that I can tutor students completing their skills sections in all locations in the comfort of their own homes.

Students are able to learn styles/songs of their choice, study towards a grade or focus on other elements including improvisation, music theory and techniques. Recent statistics showed that learning a musical instrument was a popular choice for the Bronze, Silver and gold medals with over 41% of candidates choosing musical instruments as their chosen skill. Learning a musical instrument encourages personal development, social and communicative skills whilst boosting self esteem and having fun at the same time! Anyone interested in learning a musical instrument as part of their Duke of Edinburgh award have come to the right place! Please feel free to contact me for more information.
